USPS to Temporarily Increase Rates for the 2024 Peak Holiday Season
The United States Postal Service has submitted a notice to the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) regarding a temporary price increase for certain package services during the 2024 holiday shopping season. The adjustment aims to offset additional handling costs and ensure smooth operations during the peak season.
The new peak-season pricing plan will impact prices for the following commercial and retail domestic parcel services: Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, and USPS Ground Advantage. It will not affect any other products or services. If approved by the PRC, the temporary rates will take effect at midnight Central Time on October 6, 2024 and remain in place until midnight Central Time on January 19, 2025.
This seasonal price adjustment is supposed to align the USPS pricing for both commercial and retail customers with market standards. Here are the planned pricing changes:
Priority Mail and USPS Ground Advantage Zone 1-4 (commercial)

- $0.45 for 4-10 lbs
- $0.75 for 11-25 lbs
- $3.00 for 26-70 lbs
Priority Mail Zone 5-9 (commercial)
- $0.70 for 0-3 lbs
- $1.25 for 4-10 lbs
- $2.75 for 11-25 lbs
- $7.00 for 26-70 lbs
USPS Ground Advantage Zone 5-9 (commercial)
- $0.35 for 0-3 lbs
- $0.75 for 4-10 lbs
- $1.25 for 11-25 lbs
- $5.50 for 26-70 lbs

- $0.40 for 0-3 lbs
- $0.55 for 4-10 lbs
