2021 Changes to FedEx Rates, Surcharges and Fees Every year, postal carriers and courier companies review their shipping rates, and FedEx is not an exception. Here’s a list of changes to FedEx rates, surcharges and fees that have (as of January 12, 2021) or will come into effect in early 2021.

Effective January 4

On January 4, 2021, FedEx increased rates for the following services: FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery®, FedEx SmartPost® and FedEx Freight. FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery® list rates increased an average 4.9%. FedEx Freight rates increased an average of 5.9% (an average of 4.9% for FXF PZONE and FXF EZONE).

The following surcharges were increased:

  • Additional Handling Surcharge (a $1 to $10 increase, depending on the service);
  • Additional Handling Surcharge – Non Stackable (a $15 increase);
  • Address Correction (a $1 to $7 increase, depending on the service);
  • Dangerous Goods (a $0.30 to $10 increase, depending on the type of goods and service);
  • Delivery Area Surcharge (a $0.15 to $2.50 increase, depending on the service);
  • and more.

Effective January 6

On January 6, 2021, certain changes to the Delivery Area Surcharge (DAS) ZIP code lists for FedEx Ground and FedEx Express came into effect. An interactive PDF with DAS ZIP code changes can be found here.

Effective January 18

On January 18, 2021, a number of FedEx Ground, FedEx Express and FedEx Freight surcharge changes will come into effect. For instance, Additional Handling Surcharge for FedEx Ground and FedEx Express packages will be assessed differently; the surcharge will apply to any package exceeding 150 inches in combined length and girth.

A new High Cost Service Area Surcharge will apply to certain FedEx Freight shipments (the list of ZIP codes where the surcharge will apply can be found here). For FedEx International Express Freight® services, certain locations in the United States will be assessed an International Out-of-Delivery-Area Surcharge or an International Out-of-Pickup-Area Surcharge (the list of ZIP codes where the surcharge will apply can be found here).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FedEx will also apply peak surcharges effective January 18 until further notice:

  • a $30/package Peak – Oversize Charge for U.S. Express Package Services, U.S. Ground Services, International Ground Service;
  • a $3/package Peak – Additional Handling Surcharge for U.S. Express Package Services, U.S. Ground Services, International Ground Service;
  • a $0.75/package Peak Surcharge for FedEx SmartPost® Package Services.

Effective February 1

Fuel surcharges for U.S. FedEx Express Freight Shipments will come into effect on February 1, 2021. The fuel surcharge table can be found here.

Effective April 6

Due to the various COVID-19 restrictions, a surcharge on FedEx Express® and TNT international parcel and freight shipments will take effect on April 6, 2021. It will not apply to domestic shipments.
